Dili, July 23 (AseanAll)  — On July 23, 2026, at the Presidential Palace in Dili, Head of State of Timor-Leste J. Ramos-Horta received Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão for a regular briefing on pressing national and international matters. 

During the meeting, the Prime Minister updated the President on diplomatic initiatives, specifically confirming the authorization for Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jesuína Maria Ferreira Gomes to travel to Vanuatu to sign a mutual visa exemption and technical cooperation agreement.

The President was also thoroughly briefed on the government’s strict campaign to eradicate illegal online gambling and combat transnational cybercrime. Emphasizing a “zero-tolerance” policy to protect Timor-Leste’s global reputation, the Prime Minister assured President Ramos-Horta that his cabinet will urgently seek parliamentary approval for robust new anti-cybercrime decree-laws.

Finally, the dialogue addressed critical domestic governance and infrastructure recovery. The Prime Minister reported on state interventions to rescue municipal development projects (PDIM and PNDS) left abandoned since 2019, assuring the President that local government human resources will be thoroughly evaluated and strengthened to ensure effective public service delivery.
