Phnom Penh, March 31 (AseanAll) — Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, received on March 31,2026 a courtesy call from Wang Wenbin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia.
Welcoming the Ambassador on the occasion of the upcoming Khmer New Year, Khuon Sudary highlighted the tradition of festive exchanges between Cambodia and China, reflecting the enduring people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Khuon Sudary reaffirmed that China remains a true friend and trusted partner of Cambodia, noting that the bilateral relationship, often described as an “ironclad friendship”, continues to demonstrate resilience amid global uncertainties.
She underscored that strong political trust and deepening strategic cooperation have delivered tangible benefits to both peoples, while also commending China’s role in promoting global peace, stability, and economic development.
The NA President congratulated China on the successful conclusion of the annual “Two Sessions,” noting that the meetings of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the National People’s Congress (NPC) reflect effective governance and forward-looking national development.
Chinese Ambassador Wang Wenbin expressed appreciation for the warm reception and affirmed that Cambodia and China share close, family-like ties, underpinned by mutual trust and long-standing cooperation.
Wang Wenbin emphasised that China’s support for Cambodia remains consistent and genuine. Despite global and regional challenges, he expressed strong confidence in Cambodia’s future, highlighting the country’s solid foundation, resilient people, and steady progress under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister.
Reaffirming China’s commitment, Wang Wenbin noted that China will continue to support Cambodia’s development priorities, including major infrastructure initiatives such as the Techo Funan Canal project, as well as capacity-building in defence cooperation.
Turning to regional and subregional cooperation, Khuon Sudary highlighted China’s constructive role in advancing peace and development in the Mekong region and reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to Mekong–Lancang Cooperation (LMC), including support for further advancing the “LMC 2.0” framework.
The Ambassador echoed this commitment, reaffirming China’s continued support for advancing Lancang–Mekong Cooperation and strengthening regional connectivity and development.
Khuon Sudary further stressed that peace remains the fundamental prerequisite for socio-economic development, particularly in the context of a rapidly evolving global environment, and emphasized the importance of continued mutual support to enhance resilience and ensure sustainable progress.
Wang Wenbin concurred, underscoring the importance of maintaining peace and stability, and expressing hope for continued positive relations between Cambodia and Thailand.
The NA President noted progress in parliamentary exchanges, including the completion of fieldwork for the research project on “Whole-Process People’s Democracy in China,” now being prepared for publication.
She also expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for its support for the Project on “Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality,” and further highlighted plans to establish a “Parliamentary Research and Training Services” to strengthen research capacity and human resource development.
Looking ahead, both sides noted ongoing efforts to advance a “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism between their foreign and defence ministers to further deepen strategic coordination and cooperation.
The Ambassador conveyed warm greetings from China’s leadership, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, and extended best wishes for Khmer New Year.
The NA President expressed confidence that bilateral relations will continue to deepen, guided by mutual trust, shared interests, and a shared vision of building an all-weather Cambodia–China community with a shared future in the new era.
