Manila, February 7 (AseanAll) — Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has constituted an inter-agency organizing committee to facilitate preparations for the successful participation of the Philippines in the upcoming Green Expo 2027 in Japan.
Under Administrative Order No. 41 dated February 4, Marcos tasked the heads of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) as the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Philippine Organizing Committee (POC), respectively.
The members of the POC are the heads of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA); Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); Department of Science and Technology (DOST); National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA); and Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM).
The Green Expo 2027 is an international horticultural exposition recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH).
It will be held in Yokohama, Japan from March to September 2027 with the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness.”
The Green Expo 2027 provides opportunities to participating countries to promote their rich biodiversity, sustainable agricultural practices, innovation in high-value crops, agri-fishery products, green technologies, eco-tourism initiatives, and cultural heritage.
President Marcos said the country’s participation in the Green Expo 2027 aligns with the thrusts and commitments of the administration under the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, particularly on the transformation of the agricultural and production sector toward sustainability and competitiveness, advancement of science and technology. and innovation for sustainable development.
The Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Members of the Committee may designate their respective alternates, with ranks not lower than Assistant Secretary or its equivalent, to decide for or on their behalf, according to AO 41.
As may be necessary, the POC may create sub-committees and invite representatives from relevant government agencies, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and the academe to provide technical advice or support.
President Marcos directed all concerned government agencies and encouraged all local government units and the private sector to render full support to and cooperation with the POC to ensure the successful participation of the Philippines in the international event.
The POC, through the Chairperson, was tasked to submit quarterly reports to the President, through the Executive Secretary, and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), as well as a final report after the closing of the Green Expо 2027.
The reports shall include details on expenses, income generated, accomplishments, economic impact, and recommendations for future policy development and actions.
