(AseanAll) — The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sugiono, received a visit from the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, in Jakarta on 6 October 2025.

The meeting marked an important momentum in strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation between the two countries, particularly as Indonesia and Thailand commemorate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year.
The meeting built on Indonesian President Prabowo’s official visit to Bangkok in May 2025, where Indonesia and Thailand agreed to elevate their ties to a Strategic Partnership. “The roadmap currently being developed is envisioned to anchor the two countries’ economic growth and resilience, while also strengthening strategic cooperation in the security, socio-cultural, and development areas. Through this roadmap, Indonesia and Thailand are also committed to expanding collaboration at both regional and global levels,” Sugiono stated.
The meeting also highlighted the importance for both countries to explore new avenues of economic growth, particularly through the renewable energy, biotechnology, creative economy, and halal industry sectors.
Beyond bilateral issues, the two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on regional dynamics, including developments in Thailand–Cambodia relations, the situation in Myanmar, and preparations leading to the 47th ASEAN Summit in October 2025.
Indonesia expressed appreciation for the steps taken by Thailand and Cambodia to ease tensions in the border and reaffirmed its support for peaceful resolution in line with the principles of the ASEAN Charter. On Myanmar, Indonesia reiterated its continued support for an inclusive and Myanmar-led peace process, guided by the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus.
In the economic sector, Thailand is among Indonesia’s top 10 trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching more than USD 17 billion in 2024. Over the past five years, Thailand’s total investment in Indonesia has reached nearly USD 1.5 billion.
Sihasak, who was appointed Thai Foreign Minister on 19 September 2025, visited Indonesia as his first bilateral destination in the region. The visit reflects the close friendship between Indonesia and Thailand and the shared commitment of both countries to build a peaceful and prosperous region.
