Cambodia, Japan Sign Exchange of Notes on Japanese Yen Loan for Two Projects

Phnom Penh, October 8 (AseanAll)  — The Government of Japan has agreed to loan some US$296.2 million to Cambodia for the implementation of two important projects.

The Exchange of Notes and accompanying documents on the loan extension, under Official Development Assistance, were signed in Phnom Penh on October 8, 2025  by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.

Approximately US$143.5 million of the total loan amount will be used for the implementation of the Niroth Water Supply Expansion Project, and the rest, US$152.7 million, for the implementation of the Phnom Penh City Transmission and Distribution System Expansion Project (Phase 3).

The continued financial assistance underscores Japan’s steadfast commitment to advancing Cambodia’s socio-economic development, and further strengthens the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
