Thai Foreign Minister pays a Working Visit to Indonesia

Jakarta, October 7 (AseanAll)  — On 5 - 6 October 2025,  Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a Working Visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, the first visit of an ASEAN country after the Foreign Minister took office.

During the visit, the Foreign Minister delivered a Keynote Address at the closing ceremony of the ASEAN for the Peoples Conference (AFPC) on 5 October 2025. The APFC brought together over 200 civil society organisations from across ASEAN to advance the vision of a people-centred ASEAN Community.

On 6 October 2025, the Foreign Minister presented the Royal Thai Government’s financial contribution to the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) to support humanitarian assistance and recovery efforts in Myanmar following the recent earthquake.

The Minister also held a bilateral meeting with Sugiono, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia. Both sides reaffirmed the strategic importance of the close Thailand–Indonesia ties and welcomed the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership during the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Thailand in May 2025. Both Foreign Ministers also agreed to jointly advance development of a Plan of Action to translate the partnership into concrete outcomes, and reflect a long-term, forward-looking cooperation framework. As founding members of ASEAN and major economies of the region, Thailand and Indonesia will strengthen coordination on key regional issues.

The Ministers also discussed ASEAN’s role in supporting sustainable peace in Myanmar, while Thailand reiterated its commitment to resolving issues with Cambodia peacefully, through existing bilateral mechanisms.

Both sides also agreed to expand economic cooperation, including on agricultural produce, sustainable fisheries, Halal industries, energy, tourism, and future industries. Thailand stands ready to host the Joint Trade Committee meeting between Thailand and Indonesia in 2026, in order to increase investments between the two countries. The Thai side also requested the Indonesian side to continue to support Thai investors operating in Indonesia.

Before departing, the Foreign Minister met with representatives from Thai government agencies and the Thai private sector in Indonesia, to emphasise their collective role in expanding Thailand’s trade and investment opportunities.

This visit, in addition to the high-level discussions to strengthen the bilateral relationship with Indonesia, also reflected Thailand’s support for humanitarian assistance to neighbouring countries affected by natural disasters, as well as the Foreign Minister’s policy guidance to Thai government agencies and private sector representatives to jointly advance Thailand–Indonesia relations. Very importantly, the Foreign Minister’s keynote address at the AFPC further serves as a statement of his, and Thailand’s, vision, perspectives, and key policy priorities within the ASEAN and the broader ASEAN framework.
