Bangkok, October 3 (AseanAll) — On October 2, 2025, at the Office of the National Security Council of Thailand, Thai Government House, Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul gave a press briefing on the outcome of the 12/2568 meeting of the National Security Council (NSC), that the meeting has approved in principle the building of fences along the Thai-Cambodian border.
Construction details will be determined by the Royal Thai Armed Forces, which will be taking into account topographic aspects, people’s convenience, and legal and social impact. NSC will later reveal the details to the public.
The Prime Minister emphasized the Government’s principle of fair and transparent enforcement of laws. Consultation with provincial governors and relevant agencies under the Ministry of Interior is necessary. Voices of local residents must also be heard to ensure that the project does not affect their livelihood. He also stressed that any action or implementation must be carried out in parallel with negotiations. Compliance with Thailand’s conditions by the Cambodian side is important to ensure mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
While the military is protecting national sovereignty and security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also proceeded with related diplomatic actions in accordance with the UN principles. The Thai Government commits to providing them with full support and preparations. Thailand clearly confirms that it is not an aggressor, but is acting to protect the country’s sovereignty.
The Thai Government has also been communicating with relevant parties in a bid to ensure that the situation is heading in the direction that benefits the country the most. Thailand stands ready to cooperate with Cambodia, and calls on the latter to strictly comply with the conditions set by the Thai side if Cambodia sincerely wishes to elevate the quality of life of its people.
