(AseanAll) — Ambassador Helen Fazey presented her Letter of Credence to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat on August 11,2025, marking the assumption of her post as the Ambassador of the United Kingdom (UK) to ASEAN.
Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Fazey on her new role and reaffirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s commitment to working closely with her and the UK Mission to ASEAN in Jakarta to strengthen the ASEAN-UK Dialogue Relations. In her response, Ambassador Fazey expressed her commitment to strengthening ASEAN-UK cooperation, highlighting the UK’s continued strong desire in supporting ASEAN as a driving force for good through deepening dialogues and collaboration in health security, clean energy, economic integration, and education.
Dr. Kao encouraged Ambassador Fazey to actively engage with the diplomatic community in Jakarta, particularly the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, both collectively and individually. Both sides acknowledged the significant progress made under the Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-UK Dialogue Partnership (2022–2026).
Secretary-General Dr. Kao and Ambassador Fazey looked forward to commemorating the fifth anniversary of the ASEAN-UK Dialogue Partnership in 2026 through various initiatives that will enhance its visibility and further elevate the partnership to greater heights.
The UK appointed its first dedicated Ambassador to ASEAN in 2019. Ambassador Fazey is the third to hold this position, succeeding Ambassador Sarah Tiffin, who concluded her tenure in early August 2025.
