Ubon Ratchathani, June 20 (AseanAll)  — Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has emphasized the Government’s strong intention to provide safety for people in seven provinces sharing borders with Cambodia and to maintain security for soldiers on the frontline.

The Prime Minister on 20 June 2025 chaired a meeting to follow up on the provision of assistance for seven border provinces, namely Trat, Chanthaburi, Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket, and Ubon Ratchathani.

She instructed the armed forces to check military equipment and personnel to ensure that they are ready to respond to the evolving situation when necessary. The Prime Minister stated that the Government upholds peaceful means and would like to avoid violence. However, in case of force majeure circumstances, security must be maintained for the safety of solders and people.

Later, on the same day, the Prime Minister visited Nam Yuen District in Ubon Ratchathani to provide relief items to soldiers and village volunteers on duty protecting the border, to boost their morale. She thanked the Commander of the Second Army Area and other local military chiefs for their strong efforts to protect the country and the people on a continual basis.

She pointed out that this incident should not have happened, saying that it was simply a technical matter of negotiations. She sincerely intended to bring peace to the Thai-Cambodian situation.

The Prime Minister called on all Thais to join forces to protect Thailand’s sovereignty, as the Cambodian acts are considered a threat to national security. The armed forces and the Government stressed the need to work closely together to deal with the situation, and the Government would support the armed forces in all forms.

Concerning the public disclosure of the private conversation between the Thai Prime Minister and the President of the Senate of Cambodia, by the Cambodian side, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19 June summoned the Cambodian Ambassador to Thailand, to hand over a protest letter, saying that these actions taken by the Cambodian side are totally unacceptable. It is a breach of diplomatic etiquette, a serious violation of trust, and undermines conduct between two neighboring countries.
