Phnom Penh, June 16 (AseanAll) — Cambodian authorities will ban all imports of Thai fruits and vegetables starting tomorrow if Thailand does not fully reopen the border gates it unilaterally closed, Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen warned on the morning of June 16,2025.
“To the Thai people, please do not blame Cambodia if we ban Thai fruits and vegetables at the Daung International Border Checkpoint […],” he stated in a special statement during the 3rd session of the Senate. “If the Thai side does not restore the border situation to how it was before the dispute within 24 hours, Cambodia will impose a ban at every checkpoint along the border.”
Hun Sen emphasised that it was the Thai army that closed the gates, and therefore they must be the ones to reopen them.
“There is no need for negotiation. It’s very simple—whoever closed the gates must reopen them. Cambodia will not negotiate on this matter,” he said.
He further criticised the request for negotiations from the Thai side, stating, “They closed the border unilaterally. Now, when they want to reopen, they ask for negotiations. Cambodia cannot accept this.”
“Cambodia is a nation with honour, dignity, and responsibility,” he stressed. “We will restore normal border operations once the Thai side does so first.”
