(AseanAll) — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono received a courtesy call from the Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Kruger Giverin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia on June 4,2025. Both discussed efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of environmental protection and economic development.

Sugiono and Giverin highlighted ongoing collaboration in environmental issues and climate action, including addressing marine debris. They also explored opportunities to boost trade and investment through the Indonesia–European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, in which Norway is a member.
Commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, Sugiono expressed Indonesia’s interest in expanding cooperation to support food security and clean energy development.
With the majority of Norway’s electricity generated from hydropower, its experience is valuable to support Indonesia in developing hydropower plants to meet the clean energy targets set in the 2025–2030 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).
Indonesia and Norway established diplomatic relations on 25 January 1950. As part of the 75th anniversary celebrations, both countries adopted the Joint Declaration on the Indonesia–Norway “Partnership for a Prosperous and Sustainable Future,” which outlines a roadmap for future cooperation in key sectors such as economy, trade, clean energy development, food security, and education.
