This was the first of two Summits hosted by Malaysia as the 2025 ASEAN Chair. Malaysia’s Chairmanship theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability” underlines the region’s forward-looking agenda and priorities in building a united and resilient ASEAN amidst geopolitical and economic challenges. The ASEAN Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ASEAN’s integration and community building efforts, and discussed ways to continue promoting a free, open, and inclusive regional architecture within ASEAN and with our external partners. They  also discussed strengthening ASEAN’s resilience by making intra-ASEAN trade more seamless and tapping new growth areas like the digital and green economies.

Lawrence Wong had many productive meetings with his counterparts to discuss global and regional developments.

Lawrence Wong remarked that there was a clear sense of renewed urgency amongst ASEAN Leaders to advance our integration efforts. The adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 is an important and positive step. ASEAN has to step up, work together, and fashion a place for itself in this changed world or risk losing its relevance.
