Beijing, April 11 (AseanAll) — On April 10, 2025, Li Ming, spokesperson for the China International Development Cooperation Agency, said that Myanmar’s disaster response work has moved to epidemic prevention and control, as well as recovery and reconstruction. At the request of the Myanmar government, China has decided to provide Myanmar with an additional RMB 1 billion in emergency humanitarian aid.
The aid package will include refined oil products, prefabricated houses, operating theaters, medicines and vaccines that are urgently needed in affected areas.
Furthermore, China will also dispatch expert teams to support medical treatment, epidemic control, and disinfection operations in Myanmar; disaster assessment teams to conduct on-site evaluations of the affected areas and assist Myanmar in post-disaster reconstruction planning and disaster risk reduction; cultural relics preservation teams and structural inspection teams to assess, inspect, repair and reinforce damaged cultural relics and buildings.
After the devastating March 28 earthquake in Myanmar, the Chinese government promptly announced RMB 100 million in emergency humanitarian aid, dispatched search and rescue teams, and delivered relief supplies to support Myanmar’s disaster response and life-saving efforts. China was the first to provide aid, to send rescue teams, and to pull survivors from the rubble. It also sent the largest number of rescue teams and personnel on the ground. These efforts have received broad appreciation from Myanmar and the international community.
On April 9, the China Search and Rescue Team, the China International Search and Rescue Team, and the HKSAR search and rescue team returned home after accomplishing their mission in Myanmar. During their deployment, the teams worked in solidarity, rescuing nine survivors, including a pregnant woman, and recovering the remains of 59 victims. They searched over 287,000 square meters of damaged buildings and infrastructure and offered free medical services to over 2,000 individuals affected by the disaster. In addition, China urgently procured domestically emergency relief materials to Myanmar, including 4,000 tents, 10,000 blankets, over 55,000 first-aid kits, 40,000 mosquito nets, 18,000 tarpaulins, 4,000 sleeping bags, 10,000 solar-powered lamps, 2,000 cooking sets, over 38,000 hygiene kits, and 2,000 boxes of instant noodles, and shipped to Myanmar via chartered planes to meet the urgent needs of affected people.
True friendship shines brightest in the darkest times. Guided by the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness in neighborhood diplomacy, China will continue to promote China-Myanmar “pauk-phaw” friendship and jointly advance the building of the China-Myanmar community with a shared future through concrete actions.
