China’s Rescue and Medical Teams are Racing to Support Medical Treatment and Epidemic Prevention in Quake-Hit Myanmar

Mandalay, April 5 (AseanAll)  — Over the past few days, China’s rescue and medical teams in Myanmar have been not only racing to save lives, but also working with their Myanmar counterparts to treat the injured and prevent disease, safeguarding the health of disaster-hit communities in Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, and beyond.

In Mandalay, the China International Search and Rescue Team organized and dispatched with the participation of the Chinese army collaborated with the China Search and Rescue Team, the HKSAR search and rescue team, and the Shenzhen Rescue Volunteers Federation to set up temporary medical stations at the shelters for the displaced. There, medical professionals used advanced equipment including bedside ECG monitors, independentally developed portable X-ray devices, and handheld ultrasound devices to provide essential services such as consultations, physical examinations, and wound debridement. They also handed out medicines and conducted health education on disease prevention.

In Nay Pyi Taw, China’s Yunnan Rescue and Medical Team provided medical consultations and expert guidance in two hospitals and three shelters, while donating 29,000 items of equipment and medicine and 41 items of disease control and prevention supplies in eight categories.

Additionally, Chinese civilian medical teams have set up makeshift clinics in remote parts of Mandalay and launched a bus-based “mobile pharmacy” to extend healthcare access to underserved communities. Over 400 patients in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw have so far received medical assistance from Chinese medical teams.

In response to a request from the Myanmar authorities, Chinese public health experts conducted sampling and testing of drinking and household water at healthcare facilities and temporary shelters, while also delivering targeted training on disinfection and disease prevention for local medical personnel. The China International Search and Rescue Team carried out disinfection of over 80,000 square meters. Upon arrival in Mandalay, the Red Cross Society of China began immediate support in patient care, medical transport, medical assistance, and psychological counseling. Going forward, Chinese rescue teams will continue to be deployed in phases, providing mobile health services and essential medicines. These efforts will focus on both physical and psychological well-being, as well as integrated prevention and treatment.

Life is paramount and compassion knows no borders. These around-the-clock rescue efforts reflect the commitment to building a global community of health for all.
