Indonesian Foreign Minister: Indonesia Prioritizes Constructive Approach for Regional Stability

(AseanAll)  — The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sugiono, has just completed a working visit to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland (January 24, 2025)to participate in The World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2025.Sugiono was present as a speaker at two panel sessions, namely a dialogue on the Myanmar issue (January 22, 2025)and a panel discussion on efforts to navigate conflicts in the Asia-Pacific.


In the second panel discussion session with the theme "Navigating Asia’s Hotspot"  (January 23, 2025), besides Sugiono, the panelists also included the President of Timor-Leste, the Speaker of the Philippine Parliament, the President of the think-tank Council on Foreign Relations, and the head of Zurich Insurance Group Asia Pacific.


"Indonesia wants to foster cooperation and collaboration with neighboring countries, friendly nations in the region, and the global community." "We will promote a constructive approach," said Sugiono.

Furthermore, he also conveyed that Indonesian diplomacy under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto will be directed towards realizing the mandate of the Indonesian Constitution, including maintaining the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and achieving prosperity for the Indonesian people.

Indonesia's joining BRICS was also highlighted in the discussion. Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia's presence in BRICS, besides to garner economic benefits, is also an effort to bridge the differences in interests between developed and developing countries in various multilateral forums.

"The prerequisite for growth is peace and stability." That is why Indonesia is open to cooperation, because we have an obligation to support national priorities and serve the Indonesian people," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

The President of Timor Leste, Ramos Horta, appreciates Indonesia's diplomatic efforts and Indonesia's role in assisting Timor-Leste's membership in ASEAN. The leadership of Zurich Insurance Group stated that Indonesia's constructive role has helped ease tensions in the region and support stability in the Asia-Pacific.

In Davos, Sugiono also held several bilateral meetings, namely with the Vice President of Yemen, the Chancellor of Austria, the Foreign Minister of Finland, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, the Foreign Minister of Tunisia, and the Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. In addition to discussing bilateral cooperation, the Palestinian issue was also raised in various bilateral meetings.
