Cambodia, Japan to Boost Cooperation in Education

Phnom Penh, January 9 (AseanAll)  — Cambodia and Japan have discussed more cooperation in education, particularly in rural areas.

The discussion took place in a meeting in Phnom Penh on January 8, 2025 between Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, representatives of NGO KIZUNA and a delegation of The Nippon Foundation led by its Executive Director Mr. Mori Yuji.

Mori Yuji said that with the financial support of the Japanese foundation, KIZUNA will continue to address challenges in the education sector in rural areas by bridging the education gap in Cambodia toward sustainable development.

The executive director briefed Dr. Hang Chuon Naron on the progress of the implementation of the projects through KIZUNA supported by The Nippon Foundation, including library management and reading promotion project, preparation of semi-automation library management software in Khmer and QR code use, and so on.

A  school building under the support of The Nippon Foundation will also be inaugurated in Koh Kong province soon, he added.

Dr. Hang Chuon Naron spoke highly of KIZUNA and The Nippon Foundation for their contribution to promoting Cambodia’s education since 2008, especially in remote areas.

The minister also thanked The Nippon Foundation through KIZUNA for providing technical and resource assistance in building the library and training librarians, and scholarships to contribute to promoting Cambodia’s education.
