Cambodian Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn Praises Vietnamese Ambassador's Role in Growing Bilateral Ties

Phnom Penh, December 11 (AseanAll)  — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn has spoken highly of outgoing Vietnamese ambassador’s vital role in advancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in fostering political ties, promoting economic relations, and people-to-people connectivity and enhancing cooperation in defence and security.

Prak Sokhonn, also Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, made the remarks on December 9,2024 while receiving a farewell call from Nguyen Huy Tang, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, upon the successful completion of his tenure in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

According to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn acknowledged  Ambassador’s contributions to facilitating high-level exchanges and highlighted the high-profile visits, including the State Visit of His Majesty the King of Cambodia to Vietnam in November, the State Visit of To Lam, former President of Vietnam to Cambodia, the visit of Hun Sen, President of the Senate in July, and the Kathina Ceremony (Buddhist robe offering) led by Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, to Wat Po Kiri Vongsaram in Tra Vinh province in November this year. Prak Sokhonn also recalled his productive official visit in March 2023 and the exchange of visits between leaders from the Legislative and Executive branches of both nations.

Prak Sokhonn emphasised the significant progress made in political, economic, culture and security cooperation between Cambodia and Vietnam.

On trade and economic front, Prak Sokhonn and Ambassador Nguyen agreed that full implementation should be further encouraged for all the agreements already signed to ensure maximum mutual benefits. They underscored the importance of sustaining momentum of their joint endeavours to reach the US$20 billion bilateral trade target set in December 2023 by the countries’ top leaders. On cross-border provincial cooperation, both sides shared the view that ensuring seamless transport connectivity is vital to socio-economic development of the two countries.

On tourism, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Ambassador noted with satisfaction the significant growth in tourism exchange between the two nations which look set to further increase.

Nguyen Huy Tang commended Cambodia’s political stability, steady social- economic progress, and many notable achievements under Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet’s premiership. He thanked the Cambodian government for its support and cooperation throughout his diplomatic mission.

In conclusion, Prak Sokhonn assured Ambassador Tang that his successor will receive full support in discharging his mission to strengthen the long-standing Cambodia-Vietnam friendship, good neighborliness, comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
