Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen visits Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Arabia to open an embassy in Cambodia

Riyadh,December 10 (AseanAll)  — The bilateral diplomatic relations and cooperation between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be further promoted to a new era after the official visit of Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen in Riyadh from December 08-09, 2024.

During his visit there, Hun Sen held talked with Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh, Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In the meeting, the Cambodian Senate President expressed his profound thanks for warm hospitality to him and Cambodian delegation and hoped that the visit will further promote bilateral relations between the two kingdoms, especially in promoting people-to-people exchanges, tourism and sports, as well as trade and investment relations.

Hun Sen suggested that Cambodia and Saudi Arabia should start core cooperation through food and energy security as both nations are monarchies.

He emphasized that Buddhism is the State religion but Cambodia doesn’t ignore the Muslim community, which receives high attention, especially in the Senate, National Assembly, Royal Government, army, police and sub-national level.

In Cambodia, there is an Islamic Supreme Council with a status equivalent to the Supreme Patriarch, so Cambodia is a model country for implementing the policy of religious tolerance and harmony in Southeast Asia and taking this opportunity Hun Sen also extended the invitation to Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh to pay a visit to Cambodia at his convenient time.

In response, the Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia welcomed Hun Sen's official visit to his nation and stated that he will pay high attention and consider to all Cambodian senate President’s initiatives.

According to Dr. Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia will open its embassy in Cambodia in the near future.

The opening of the embassy will facilitate the promotion and further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries, he underlined.

The Saudi Arabian legislative leader added that the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a committee in charge of Cambodia and recommended the committee to further work and cooperate with Cambodian side in the future.

The Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also expressed his pleasure in accepting Hun Sen’s invitation to visit Cambodia.
