ASEAN needs a robust long-term vision for the next 20 years

Jakarta,February 25  (AseanAll) — Indonesia Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani emphasized that ASEAN needs a robust long-term vision for the next 20 years at the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community's Post-2025 (HLTF) meeting in Jakarta, 20 - 21 February 2023,according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

Moreover, Ambassador Djani expressed how in the year 2045 ASEAN must be agile, resilient, adaptable, and connected. In the midst of the dynamic world situation, ASEAN is required to remain relevant in facing present and future various global and regional challenges.


The HLTF members also met to discuss the drafting of the post-2025 ASEAN Vision. In drafting the Vision, HLTF also gathered several perspectives from civil society, academia, and other related ASEAN bodies.

ASEAN Leaders have mandated the establishment of HLTF in 2020 to formulate a post-2025 ASEAN Community Vision. The membership of HLTF consists of one Eminent Person (EP) and High-Level Representative (HLR) from each ASEAN member country and the serving ASEAN Secretary General.


The meeting in Jakarta is the first HLTF meeting under Indonesia's chairmanship and the sixth since HLTF was established. Indonesia and Malaysia were co-chairs for HLTF for 2023. Indonesia is scheduled to be the host for several following rounds of the HLTF meetings this year.

At this meeting, Indonesia also introduced a new format called 'sofa talk' which allows for a relaxed and open exchange of views to expedite the discussion of the ASEAN Vision drafting in the future.


Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, Advisor to the Minister on Priority Programs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia is the current EP of Indonesia, while Ambassador Ngurah Swajaya, Special Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs on Regional Diplomacy serve as HLR.
