Indonesia completely lifts COVID-19 restrictions

Jakarta ,December 30(AseanAll) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)on December 30 announced an end to the public activity restrictions (PPKM) policy, which was enforced to control COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia.

"Considering our (COVID-19) numbers, today, the government has decided to revoke the PPKM policy as regulated in the Home Affairs Ministry’s Regulations No. 50 and 51 of 2022," said President Joko Widodo through his press statement at Merdeka Palace on Friday.

The revocation of the PPKM policy means that there will be no more restrictions on public activities and mobility, he affirmed.

He urged Indonesians to remain vigilant against the virus, including continuing to wear a mask indoors and in crowded places."However, I ask all people and the nation to remain careful and vigilant,"  Jokowi said.

Indonesia has become one of the success stories of the effort to balance pandemic handling with maintaining economic stability, he added.

"Indonesia is one of the G20 countries that for 10-11 consecutive months has not experienced an increase in pandemic waves," the President said.

"We can see that the COVID-19 pandemic (in Indonesia) has been brought under control in recent months," he noted.

According to the President, as of November 27, 2022, Indonesia recorded only 1.7 COVID-19 cases per 1 million population, with the weekly positivity rate pegged at just 3.35 percent.

Moreover, Indonesia only had a 4.79-percent bed occupancy ratio and 2.39-percent fatality rate during the same period, he added.

"All (indicators) are below the WHO threshold," he said.

In addition, Indonesia has no plans to tighten restrictions for travellers from China and keeps its looser COVID-19 policy for international visitors.
