UN Palestine Committee Bureau Delegation Visit to Jakarta: Appreciation of Indonesia's Commitment to the Palestinian Issue

Jakarta, July 8 (AseanAll)  — A delegation of the Bureau of the Committee on the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) or the UN Palestine Committee has conducted a visit to Jakarta on July 3 to 5,2024.

The visit is a form of appreciation from the Bureau of the UN Palestine Committee for Indonesia's commitment in supporting the Palestinian cause.

The delegation was led by the Permanent Representative of Senegal to the UN and consisted of the Permanent Representatives of Indonesia, Malaysia, Namibia, Nicaragua, and Palestine as permanent observers at the UN.

The delegation met with the Indonesian Vice President, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Indonesian House of Representatives, Permanent Representatives of ASEAN countries in Jakarta, and civil society representatives.

The series of meetings resulted in several key messages, namely:

1. Indonesia's strong commitment to the Palestinian Issue

The Committee appreciates Indonesia for championing the Palestinian issue in various international forums.

2. Encouraging wider recognition of the Palestinian state in Asia

More recognition of the Palestinian state is considered an important step towards peace and a two-state solution as well as Palestine's full membership in the UN.

3. Strengthening humanitarian assistance

Humanitarian assistance remains a priority. For this reason, it is important to seek innovation in fundraising and aid distribution.

4. Permanent and immediate ceasefire

All parties should continue to voice a permanent and immediate ceasefire to stop the violence in Gaza and the West Bank.

The Bureau of the Palestine Committee had the opportunity to visit the Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral to see firsthand evidence of religious harmony in Indonesia and the similarity of views on the Palestinian issue.

In addition, the Bureau also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of Palestinian students in Jakarta, KADIN, and representatives of the Ministry of Trade to discuss support for Palestine from socio-cultural and economic aspects.

Since the establishment of the UN Palestine Committee in 1975, Indonesia has continued to be an important part of the UN Palestine Committee Bureau.
