Thailand Aids Türkiye with Relief Funds and Rescue Team

Bangkok,February 10, 2023(AseanAll)— The Thai government has extended its support to Türkiye and Syria in the wake of the massive earthquake that struck the two countries, donating 5 million baht in relief funds to Türkiye and 1 million baht to Syria to help cope with the devastation caused by the quake that has claimed over 20,000 lives.



According to NNT (National News Bureau of Thailand), reports have confirmed that one Thai national has been found dead in the Turkish city of Iskenderun. The victim, a Thai woman, has not been identified yet. In response, Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed condolences to the family of the victim and instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai embassy in Ankara to work with Turkish officials in providing shelter to the affected Thai nationals.


According to Kanchana Patarachoke, Director-General of the Thai Department of Information, about 30 Thais are currently residing in Türkiye and no other Thais have been reported injured or perished in the earthquake.


To support the rescue efforts, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has sent a team of 42 members from the Urban Search and Rescue Thailand (USAR Thailand) to Türkiye. The team operates under the United Nations guidelines for providing humanitarian assistance and consists of rescuers, medical personnel, and facilitators.
