Indonesian Foreign Ministry Holds Nusantara Capital City Socialization Event

Jakarta, August 7 (AseanAll)  — Indonesian Foreign Ministry in cooperation with Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) held a Socialization event on Nusantara Capital City (IKN) development to the Representatives of Foreign Countries and International Organizations (PNAOI) in Jakarta on July 31,2023.

The event was attended by around 200 invited guests from Representatives of Foreign Countries and International Organizations in Jakarta. The event aimed to deliver information on the latest developments on the move to IKN, as well as to open discussions and hear the aspirations of diplomatic missions and international organizations in Jakarta.

The event opened with remarks from the Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs, Ambassador Andy Rachmianto who conveyed that the Capital transition from Jakarta to Kalimantan is the Government's strategic agenda and an integral part of the Indonesian Vision 2045. In accordance with UU No. 3 of 2022, IKN was designated as the location for Government administration in addition to Centre for Representatives of Foreign Countries and International Organizations. In this regard, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry is responsible for increasing the awareness of the international community including foreign missions regarding IKN.

The Deputy for OIKN Development Supervision, Thomas Umbu Pati in his speech conveyed several things, such as the latest infrastructure development in IKN, funding schemes, and investment opportunities as well as the incentives offered. To date, 265 letters of intent have been received from 19 countries aiming to invest in 14 sectors. The transfer of the offices is expected to make a positive contribution to the development of the IKN area through various international corporations including investment, trade, services, and urban development as well as encouraging the development of other sectors such as education, health, technology, and employment opportunities.

In the discussion session, the Deputy explained the timeline for moving diplomatic missions and international organizations. It was emphasized that the transfer of Representatives of Foreign Countries and International Organizations is expected to be carried out in 2030-2034, although it is possible that this timeline could be accelerated, taking into account the readiness of infrastructure in IKN.

This socialization is meant as a preliminary step for the Indonesian Government to communicate IKN to diplomatic missions and international organizations in Indonesia. In the future, the Indonesian Government, in this context the Foreign Ministry and Nusantara Capital City Authority will develop mechanisms to progress the move to IKN.
