Kathmandu,January 15,2023(AseanAll)On January 15, a passenger plane carrying 72 people crashed in Nepal, killing all the people on board.
According to comprehensive information, in the morning of the same day, an ATR-72 passenger plane from Yeti Airlines flew from the Tribuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, the capital, to the central city of Pokhara, only to crash between the new and old airports in Pokhara.
Later that day, Yeti Airlines said that the plane carried 72 people, including 68 passengers and 4 crew members. All the passengers on the plane had been killed.
According to the statement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the passengers on the crashed flight included 15 foreigners, including 5 Indians, 4 Russians, 2 South Koreans, and the other 4 were from Australia, Ireland, Argentina and France.
Jagannath Niraula, spokesman of CAAN, said that the accident was by far the largest aviation accident in Nepal.
The staff of CAAN said that the technical failure was the cause of the plane crash in Nepal. "There is no problem with the weather. I received a preliminary message that the plane crashed due to technical reasons. I once received a message that the plane found flames while it was still in the air."
The Government of Nepal has established an aircraft crash investigation committee, which should submit its report within 45 days.
According to AseanAll, the aircraft involved is an ATR72-500, with the registration number of 9N-ANC. The aircraft was delivered in August 2007, with the age of 15.5 years. The aircraft has successively served in aviation in India, South Africa and Thailand, and joined the Yeti Airlines fleet in April 2019. Before the crash, the airline operated six aircraft of this type.
