Singapore, May 29 (AseanAll) — On the sidelines of the 23rd IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, President of the Republic of Timor-Leste J. Ramos-Horta held a productive bilateral meeting with the President of Vietnam, Tô Lâm.

This high-level encounter focused on deepening the historical bonds between the two nations and exploring new avenues for diplomatic and economic collaboration. President Ramos-Horta congratulated President Tô Lâm on his recent appointment, signaling a new chapter in the robust partnership between Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
A significant highlight of the discussion was Vietnam’s announcement regarding the process of establishing a resident Embassy in Dili, a move that will significantly streamline bilateral cooperation. President Ramos-Horta expressed his profound gratitude for Vietnam’s unwavering support for Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN as its 11th member. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability, with Vietnam pledging to continue its support as Timor-Leste became full membership and its future ASEAN Chairmanship in 2029.
The dialogue also touched upon strategic development goals, including infrastructure, telecommunications, and the energy sector. President Ramos-Horta briefed his counterpart on Timor-Leste’s progress regarding the Greater Sunrise project and the nation’s transition toward renewable energy, specifically through solar initiatives and maritime investment.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to foster further private-sector cooperation to drive economic growth and industrial resilience in both countries.
