New Singaporean Ambassador to Cambodia Committed to Strengthening and Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Phnom Penh, May 13 (AseanAll)  — On the morning of 13 May 2026, Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Pang Chee Wee, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed satisfaction with and high appreciation for the progress of bilateral relations and cooperation, noting that the frequent meetings between the leaders of both countries reflect the close ties between Singapore and Cambodia. 

The Ambassador affirmed his commitment to strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation across various key sectors. He also informed Hun Manet of the continued enhancement of cooperation in priority areas, including food and agricultural products for export to the Singaporean market, logistics and connectivity, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). 

The Ambassador further underscored that Singapore regards Cambodia’s young workforce as a labour force with strong potential and employment opportunities in Singapore. 

Additionally, Pang Chee Wee highlighted the ongoing excellent cooperation with Cambodian government institutions in capacity-building through training and the provision of technical skills to civil servants.

In response, Hun Manet extended his congratulations to Pang Chee Wee on his appointment as Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Cambodia and expressed his firm confidence that bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries would be further strengthened and deepened during his diplomatic tenure. 

Hun Manet highly valued the strong bond of friendship and cooperation across various sectors and reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness to continue enhancing cooperation and exploring new opportunities for cooperation with Singapore within both bilateral and regional frameworks. 

Regarding TVET, Hun Manet highly commended the existing cooperation between the two countries in this sector and noted that the Royal Government of Cambodia has tasked the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training with implementing the “New Educational Path” programme. The initiative is aimed at providing vocational orientation and technical skills training to youth and high school students based on their aptitudes and talents in order to meet current and future labour market demands.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister and the Ambassador exchanged views on promoting cooperation in other priority areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, energy, health, biodiversity conservation, and ecotourism.

Before concluding, the Prime Minister encouraged the Ambassador to continue engaging closely with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions in order to further advance cooperation towards more fruitful outcomes for the mutual benefit of the two nations and peoples.
