Jakarta, April 9 (AseanAll)  — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated the electric commercial vehicle assembly plant of PT VKTR Sakti Industries in Magelang regency, Central Java province, on April 9,2026. The inauguration represents a significant milestone in strengthening the national electric vehicle (EV) industry and supporting Indonesia’s transition toward clean energy.

Upon arrival, the President conducted a direct inspection of various EV produced at the facility. The inspection included several units such as a 12-meter electric bus used by DAMRI for TransJakarta services, an 8-meter electric bus for Trans Semarang operations, as well as Tri Sakti bus models and components.

In addition, the President reviewed industrial EV, including electric forklifts, electric transporters utilized by PT Perhutani Alam Wisata, and electric heavy-duty trucks operated by PT Semen Indonesia Logistik.

The inspection was guided by VKTR’s President Commissioner, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, and accompanied by the company’s President Director, Anindra Ardiansyah Bakrie, who provided an overview of the plant’s technological capabilities and production capacity.

Following the inspection, the President proceeded to the main venue of the inauguration ceremony. The program included the national anthem Indonesia Raya, a prayer session, remarks from VKTR leadership, a launch video presentation, and the President’s official address.

“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today on Thursday April 9, 2026, I, President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, hereby inaugurate the VKTR Electric Commercial Vehicle Assembly Plant,” the President declared. The ceremony was marked by the sounding of a siren and the signing of a commemorative plaque.

Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism and pride over the progress of the national electric vehicle industry, particularly in capabilities of domestic production for electric buses and trucks. The Head of State views this achievement as a strategic step to strengthen national automotive industry independence based on clean energy.

“Today I am very pleased, very proud that now Indonesia has the capability to produce electric buses and trucks. This is very important and indeed is part of our plan. I hope that in 2028 we will mass-produce electric passenger vehicle,” said the President at the inauguration of PT VKTR Sakti Industries’ electric commercial vehicle assembly facility in Magelang regency, Central Java province.

During the event, the President highlighted the increased domestic production capacity, with PT VKTR Sakti Industries capable of producing 10,000 units. He added that the domestic component level (TKDN) has currently reached 40 percent.

“In a short time, perhaps two years from now it will reach 60 percent, and in two years will reach 80 percent,” he added.

The President also appreciated support from various parties, such as the Central Java and Jakarta regional governments, in promoting the use of domestic products.

He expressed hope that this step will be followed by other regional governments. “We hope that other provincial governments will support and purchase our own nation’s products throughout Indonesia,” he said.

Furthermore, the President revealed that the Government is establishing a company to produce electric sedans as part of strengthening the national electric vehicle ecosystem.

Prabowo expressed hope that the national electric vehicle industry can produce flagship companies capable of competing at the global level.

With a strengthening industrial foundation, consistent policy support, and collaboration between government and private sector, Indonesia is aspired not only to become a player but a leader in the global electric vehicle industry.

This inauguration goes beyond the launch of an industrial facility; it represents a strategic step in advancing downstream industrialization, reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels, and accelerating Indonesia’s transition toward energy sovereignty. The Government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting environmentally friendly modern transportation solutions while generating employment opportunities and increasing domestic value-added.
