Azerbaijan, March 12 (AseanAll)  — On the margins of the XIII Global Baku Forum, President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, held a strategic bilateral meeting with Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). 

The high-level encounter provided a crucial opportunity to exchange perspectives on the current international landscape, focusing heavily on the pressing challenges facing the multilateral system and the vital role of the United Nations in promoting global peace, international cooperation, and sustainable development.

A central focus of the dialogue centered on the evolving dynamics within the United Nations system, particularly the upcoming selection process for the next UN Secretary-General. President Ramos-Horta and Secretary-General Grynspan shared profound reflections on the critical need for robust, visionary international leadership capable of revitalizing multilateralism and effectively responding to today’s complex, interconnected global crises.

This meeting in Baku builds seamlessly upon the fruitful dialogue initiated between the two leaders earlier this year at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, 2026. By continuing this important exchange of views, President Ramos-Horta reaffirms Timor-Leste’s active commitment to shaping global governance conversations and ensuring that multilateral institutions remain strong, inclusive, and capable of navigating the modern international arena.
