Timor-Leste President Ramos-Horta Attends the Inauguration of Portugal’s New President

Lisbon, March 10 (AseanAll)  —– On March 9, 2026, the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, officially attended the inauguration ceremony of Portugal’s newly elected 21st President, António José Seguro, who succeeds Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. 

For this significant diplomatic event in Lisbon, the Head of State was accompanied by a distinguished delegation that included theTimorese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, and Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Portugal, Manuel Serrano.

According to the official presidential agenda, Ramos-Horta joined international dignitaries at 8:50 AM local time at the Assembleia da República to witness the swearing-in of his Portuguese counterpart. The participation of the Timorese Head of State in this ceremony highlights the enduring friendship, mutual respect, and strong bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and Portugal.

Portuguese President António José Seguro officially assumed office following a decisive electoral victory in the second round of voting held on February 8, 2026. He secured his mandate to lead the nation by winning the strong confidence of the Portuguese people, garnering 3,502,613 votes (66.84%) to successfully defeat his opponent, André Ventura, who received 1,737,950 votes (33.16%).
