Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) receives farewell call from the Defence Adviser of Canada to Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan, March 4 (AseanAll)  — Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), received a farewell call from Captain Hugues Canuel, Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), Defence Adviser of Canada to Singapore and Non-Resident Defence Adviser to Brunei Darussalam, at the Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam on March 4,2026.

Captain Canuel has served as the Non-Resident Defence Adviser accredited to Brunei Darussalam since August 2022. He was accompanied by Commander Lee Atkinson, Assistant Defence Adviser.

The farewell call marked the conclusion of Captain Canuel's tenure in his capacity as Non-Resident Defence Adviser to Brunei Darussalam. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the cordial and constructive defence relations between the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Canadian Armed Forces, underscoring the importance of sustained engagement in strengthening mutual understanding, professionalism, and cooperation.

Discussions highlighted ongoing and potential areas of collaboration, including professional military exchanges, multilateral defence engagements, and interactions within ASEAN-led defence frameworks. Both sides acknowledged Canada's active participation in regional security initiatives and its continued engagement with ASEAN defence mechanisms.

The Commander of the RBAF expressed appreciation for Captain Canuel's contributions over the past years in fostering closer defence ties between Brunei Darussalam and Canada, and conveyed best wishes for his future endeavours. The Royal Brunei Armed Forces remains committed to further enhancing defence cooperation with Canada based on mutual respect, shared interests, and a common commitment to regional peace and stability.
