Kuantan, February 12 (AseanAll) — On February 11, 2026,the launching ceremony for the arrival of the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) & Electric Locomotive (E-Loco) trains of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) took place in Kuantan, Pahang,Malaysia.

Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing attended the ceremony and delivered remarks. Also present were Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, Loke Siew Fook; Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, and Chief Secretary to the Government, Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Ambassador Ouyang said that the ECRL, a flagship project of China-Malaysia high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, has reached 91.7% construction progress, and this launching ceremony marks a significant step forward in the project from high-quality construction to high-level operation. He said, China will work with Malaysia to make the ECRL a model project that carries forward the China-Malaysia traditional friendship and shares the fruits of development.
Loke said, the ECRL is a strategic cooperation project between the two countries. He looks forward to the trains bringing a better ride experience to the Malaysian people and driving regional economic development.
Fahmi expressed hope that the ECRL will help Malaysia build an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem.
Guests then took a test ride on the EMU trains and experienced its onboard facilities. They hope that builders from both countries keep making headway so that the project completes and starts operations according to schedule.
