Timor-Leste President Meets NUSS Alumni un Singapore to Explore Investment Opportunities

(AseanAll)  — On his return trip from the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, held a productive meeting on January 25, 2026 in Singapore with representatives of the Graduate Alumni Society of the National University of Singapore Society (NUSS).

The meeting was attended by Tong Hsien-Hui, President of NUSS and Executive Director of Investments at SG Innovate—a government-backed firm specializing in deep-tech startups—along with board member Yi Da Soh. The dialogue provided an opportunity to establish contacts with Singapore’s largest graduate alumni network, which comprises over 21,000 influential members across the public and private sectors.

During the session, Ramos-Horta presented a comprehensive vision of Timor-Leste’s positive business climate and emerging economic opportunities. The President highlighted strategic infrastructure projects, such as the Tibar Bay Port, and detailed the potential for significant investment in the shipbuilding and solar energy sectors. The presentation aimed to position Timor-Leste as an attractive destination for regional investors seeking sustainable growth and technological collaboration in Southeast Asia.

The NUSS representatives expressed great interest in the President’s presentation, leading to plans for a delegation from the society to visit Timor-Leste in March or May 2026 to explore future partnerships.

Additionally, the President was formally invited to participate as a keynote speaker at a future conference in Singapore. This meeting reinforces the growing international attention toward Timor-Leste’s economic development and reflects the nation’s commitment to building strategic alliances in technology and infrastructure to drive economic diversification.
