Bangkok, January 20 (AseanAll) — Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes turned over the Philippine-issued commemorative stamps marking the 80th founding anniversary of the United Nations to Dr. Vinaya Prakash Singh, Secretary General of the Asian-Pacific Postal Union, at the APPU Headquarters in Bangkok on 15 January 2026.

APPU is a specialized intergovernmental body operating as a regional union under the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The union, which currently comprises 32 member countries, was established in 1962 following a postal roundtable of 18 countries convened by the Philippines in January 1961.
Ambassador Paredes underscored that the design of the commemorative stamps - referred to as the “Hope” and “Endeavour” stamps - highlight the UN’s legacy and the Philippines' enduring commitment to the UN’s ideals, as well as the country’s role in multilateralism, international cooperation and global peace. “At this time when the UN in its 80th year is being challenged, we need to stay solidly together, continue to give and do small gestures like this because we should continue to shine a light in all aspects of multilateralism,” remarked Ambassador Paredes.
Designed by Filipino diplomat, Mr. Marthy Angue, the stamps feature uniquely Filipino elements such as the sun in the Philippine flag, t’nalak fabric patterns, and vinta sails.
Dr. Singh expressed his sincere appreciation for the Philippines’ donation, which will be a great addition to the APPU’s philatelic gallery. He also acknowledged the Philippines’ significant leadership role since the creation of the APPU and conveyed his optimism that the Philippines, as Chair of the ASEAN this year, will continue to support APPU’s initiatives and efforts throughout the region.
Ambassador Parades acknowledged the long-standing partnership between the Philippines and APPU and reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to further support and participate in the APPU to enhance postal services throughout the region.
The commemorative stamps were officially unveiled by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines and the Philippine Postal Corporation on 25 June 2025 at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila.
