ADB Appoints New Country Director for Thailand

Bangkok, January 13 (AseanAll)  — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Aaron Batten as its new Country Director for Thailand. He assumes office in January.

Mr. Batten will oversee ADB operations in Thailand, including the implementation of its country partnership strategy, which prioritizes competitiveness, connectivity, and resilience to support the country's continued development toward high-income status. Under his leadership, the Thailand Resident Mission will work to further deepen ADB’s partnership with the Government to accelerate environmental action; strengthen social and economic resilience, including health care and flood management; and advance Thailand’s digital and green transitions through high-impact investments.

“I will place a strong emphasis on fostering private sector development by unlocking innovation and finance, while also promoting regional cooperation and integration to enhance connectivity and prosperity across the Mekong subregion,” said Mr. Batten. “Digital transformation will be a key driver of this agenda, enabling Thailand to build a more adaptive, future-ready economy.”

Mr. Batten is an international development professional with more than 20 years of experience across Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, and Africa, including 15 years with ADB. His expertise spans infrastructure project design and delivery, public financial management, fiscal and debt policy, and country strategy leadership. He holds a PhD in International Economics from the Australian National University.
