Thai Prime Minister issues a statement on the Thailand–Cambodia Border Situation

Bangkok, December 8 (AseanAll)  — A new round of border conflict broke out between Thailand and Cambodia on December 7, 2025. On December 8, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand issued a statement on on the Thailand–Cambodia Border Situation.

Statement on the Thailand–Cambodia Border Situation by H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand

Throughout the period from 7 December 2025 until now, clashes have occurred along various areas of the Thai–Cambodian border. The government has been closely monitoring the situation at every stage and has instructed all security agencies to work closely together in order to ensure the safety of the people and to strictly protect the sovereignty of the nation.

The government affirms that Thailand will maintain its utmost commitment to defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with international law and the legitimate right of self-defence. Today, the National Security Council (NSC) convened a meeting and confirmed its resolution to proceed in line with the Council’s previous decisions, namely the military will take action in all necessary cases according to the situation, and will carry out any additional military operations that may be required. 

The government has full confidence in the capabilities of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence, which have been carrying out their duties with caution, in accordance with the rules on the use of force, and guided by humanitarian principles in protecting the public and maintaining order along the entire border area.

At the same time, the government also extends its support and concern to the people living in the border areas who have had to evacuate to temporary shelters. The government has instructed all agencies to provide close attention to their well-being and safety, including shelter, food, drinking water, medical services, and all necessary welfare to the fullest extent possible.

To ensure the accuracy of information and prevent public alarm, the government asks citizens to follow updates only through official channels. The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been assigned as the primary source of information on all matters related to the border situation.

The government will coordinate information with the Ministry of Defence, all branches of the armed forces, and security agency at every level, to ensure that information released to the public is accurate, clear, and consistent.

The government assures the public that the protection of the nation and ensuring the safety of its citizens are the highest priority of both the government and the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

Thailand does not wish to see violence and reaffirms that it has not initiated or carried out any aggression. However, Thailand will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty and will act reasonably, cautiously, and in accordance to the principles of peace, security, and humanitarian values.

The government will continue to keep the public informed and is prepared to take all necessary measures to protect national security and look after the people to the best of its ability.

The government asks the public to have confidence in the government and in the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and to join in offering support and encouragement for the current military operations.
