Thai Prime Minister Anutin has a phone conversation with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Minh

Bangkok, October 22 (AseanAll)  — On October 21, 2025, Thai Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat disclosed about the phone conversation between Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The Prime Minister thanked the Vietnamese counterpart for his congratulations, and expressed condolences over Vietnam’s extensive damages caused by Typhoon Bualoi last September. He also extended his congratulations to the Government and people of Vietnam on occasion of the 80th anniversary of independence on September 2, 2025, and expressed confidence that cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam, as two largest economies of the Mekong Subregion, would contribute to the advancement of regional economy and development in a sustainable manner.

The Prime Minister of Vietnam congratulated the Thai Prime Minister for being entrusted by the Thai Parliament and people to assume the premiership, and wished him a success. Vietnam affirmed its commitment to continue strengthening relations and cooperation with Thailand, especially after May 2025 when relations between the two countries have been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership. In the context of the rapidly-changing world, strong relations and cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam would have a positive impact on bilateral, ASEAN, and global cooperation as a whole.

The two Prime Ministers also discussed cooperation on security mechanisms, and trade and investment with an aim to reach the trade target of US$25 billion. Additionally, they came to terms on elevating cooperation in education; people-to-people and cultural exchange; and Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing; as well as cooperation in the Mekong Sub-region, and ASEAN empowerment that will lead to regional stability and peace.

The two sides also discussed Thailand-Cambodia situation. The Prime Minister affirmed that the Thai Government is committed to peacefully resolving issues with Cambodia through various bilateral mechanisms while fully protecting national sovereignty. He hoped for satisfactory outcomes of the forthcoming bilateral meeting between Thailand and Cambodia which would lead to a signing ceremony in Malaysia later this month. Thailand hopes that Cambodia will comply with conditions, including withdrawal of heavy weapons from the border area, demining operations, suppression of online scams, and addressing border encroachments into Thai territory. The Vietnamese Prime Minister was pleased with Thailand's commitment to peaceful negotiation and hoped for the lasting peace between Thailand and Cambodia.

The two Prime Ministers expressed hope to meet at the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia later this month to further discuss and reinforce cooperation on various issues. The Thai Prime Minister also extended an invitation for Vietnam to attend the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Summit, which Thailand will host in December, and reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Vietnam in all dimensions, especially economic cooperation, following the elevation of relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Thailand and Vietnam also hope to promote mutual investment, particularly in the agricultural industry, technology, and manufacturing sectors, among others.
