(AseanAll) — Cambodian Acting Head of State and President of the Senate Hun Sen has expressed heartfelt thanks to the Government and people of China for their consistent support of Cambodia’s development path in line with its national conditions. He highlighted China’s wide-ranging assistance in key sectors such as infrastructure, transport, and energy, especially the Funan Techo Canal project.
Hun Sen made the remarks while attending a reception celebrating the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, hosted on the evening of September 26, 2025 by Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin in Phnom Penh.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1958, Cambodia-China ties—carefully nurtured by successive generations of leaders—have grown steadily, evolving into a comprehensive strategic partnership and an “iron-clad” friendship, Hun Sen underlined.
Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering adherence to the One China policy and expressed support for China’s global initiatives. He said Cambodia firmly believes these initiatives will contribute to protecting global interests, advancing sustainable development, and strengthening the United Nations 2030 Agenda, while safeguarding peace, security, and harmony.
He stressed that Cambodia will continue to work closely with China through regional and international frameworks, including ASEAN-China cooperation, Mekong-Lancang Cooperation, the Greater Mekong Subregion, and the United Nations, to promote peace, stability, prosperity, and development.
Hun Sen also highlighted China’s role as a major trading and investment partner, a key donor, and a strong supporter of human capital development in Cambodia. He noted that Chinese assistance has significantly contributed to socio-economic progress, infrastructure improvements, and better livelihoods for the Cambodian people.
The two countries are working together to further strengthen trade, investment, and supply chains, particularly by expanding Cambodia’s agricultural exports to the Chinese market, he added.
Hun Sen also commended the steady growth of bilateral trade and Chinese investment in Cambodia. He encouraged relevant ministries and institutions of both countries to deepen cooperation in implementing the Cambodia-China Tourism Year, increase direct flights between cities and provinces, and promote stronger people-to-people exchanges.
