Beijing,September 16(AseanAll) — On September 16, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol in Beijing.
Wang Yi stated that the ironclad friendship between China and Cambodia remains rock-solid, deeply-rooted and flourishing. Chinese President Xi Jinping's successful state visit to Cambodia in April this year has injected strong momentum into building an all-weather China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era. China is ready to work with Cambodia, under the guidance of the strategic consensus of the leaders of both countries, to strengthen high-level exchanges and enhance mutual trust. Both sides should continue to leverage the role of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee, accelerate the implementation of cooperation projects in various fields, make good use of the planning of the "Industrial Development Corridor" and the "Fish and Rice Corridor", and deliver more tangible outcomes.
Wang Yi stated that China and Cambodia have stood together through thick and thin, treating each other with utmost sincerity, and have always firmly supported each other on issues concerning their respective core interests. China firmly supports Cambodia in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and development interests. Both China and Cambodia oppose certain countries' unilateralism and bullying practices, oppose turning back the wheel of history, and oppose exploiting the whole world with tariffs.
Sun Chanthol sincerely congratulated China on the successful hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Tianjin Summit and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He expressed gratitude for China's long-term valuable support and assistance, and stated that Cambodia will firmly abide by the one-China principle. Noting that the Belt and Road Initiative serves as a lifeline for Cambodia's development, he said Cambodia will continue to firmly advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with China. The tariff war has brought huge challenges to Cambodia and the world, and Cambodia is willing to resolve differences through negotiations, but will not sacrifice its own interests and those of China. Cambodia is willing to work with China to continue leveraging the coordinating role of the Intergovernmental Coordination Committee, promote cooperation on projects such as the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project, enhance cooperation levels in trade, investment and other fields, and continuously advance the building of an all-weather Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. Wang Yi stated that since the onset of the conflict, China has actively promoted talks for peace. Cambodia and Thailand are close neighbors, and there are no insurmountable obstacles or unsolvable problems between the two countries. He expressed hope that the two sides will seize opportunities to accelerate the reconciliation process. He added that China's special envoy is conducting the third round of mediation and that China is ready to actively provide assistance based on the willingness of both sides. Sun Chanthol thanked China for its important role and expressed Cambodia's willingness to resolve the dispute with Thailand through dialogue and negotiation as soon as possible.
