Thai Acting Prime Minister Has Conversation with US President Trump on Thai-Cambodian Ceasefire

Bangkok, July 27(AseanAll) —Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as acting Prime Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, stated that he had a conversation with US President Donald Trump, who requested that Thailand and Cambodia agree to a ceasefire immediately.

Mr. Phumtham said that Thailand agrees in principle to have a ceasefire in place; however, it would like to see sincere intention from the Cambodian side.

He requested President Trump to convey to the Cambodian side that Thailand wants to convene a bilateral dialogue as soon as possible to bring forth measures and procedures for the ceasefire and the eventual peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Mr. Phumtham on 27 July, 2027 visited Trat Province, which is one of the six areas in Thailand affected by artillery shots fired by Cambodian forces. He urged local officials to take good care of people, saying that the Government had increased funds for governors of all affected provinces to assist the people.

He added that Thailand has consistently adhered to principles of peace and dialogue. However, Cambodian attacks have targeted civilians, and Thailand had no choice but to respond to their aggressive acts at limited military targets in order to protect Thai people and Thailand’s sovereignty.
