(AseanAll) — The 17th BRICS Summit has produced several strategic agreements stated in the Leaders’ Declaration, with a focus on strengthening multilateralism, promoting global peace, deepening economic cooperation, and promoting sustainable development.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the high-level meeting in Brazil’s second-largest city, Rio de Janeiro, on July 6, 2025 and reaffirmed Indonesia’s full support for the new direction of BRICS cooperation.
“One of the outcomes of the Summit was the Leaders’ Declaration, which contains several points. The first of which is related to strengthening multilateralism and reforming global governance,” Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said in his press statement in Rio de Janeiro on July 6.
Airlangga pointed out that the declaration’s second point focuses on promoting peace and international stability, as well as strengthening cooperation in economic, trade, and financial sectors, which are vital for Indonesia in expanding market access for its products and building economic resilience during global turmoil.
“The second point is crucial for Indonesia amid uncertainties. We have BRICS, which we expect can create a market that can help absorb Indonesian products,” he said.
Airlangga also stated that the third point concerns the commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable, fair, and inclusive development. He added that BRICS countries have reached an agreement that energy transition and green development should progress concurrently with ensuring justice for developing economies.
“The third point is related to climate change and promoting sustainable, fair and inclusive development,” he said, adding that the fourth point of the declaration focuses on strengthening partnership for human, social, and cultural development. Indonesia deems this cooperation important to prop up equitable social transformation that strengthens fellow member states.
“The fourth point focuses on partnership for promotion, human, social, and cultural development. Those are the outcomes of the Leaders’ Declaration,” he remarked.
