Dili, July 7 (AseanAll)  — Timor-Leste President and Nobel Peace Laureate, J. Ramos-Horta, has expressed his profound sorrow following the devastating floods that struck Central Texas on July 4, 2025, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread displacement of families.

The tragic flooding has claimed at least 82 lives, with more than 40 people still reported missing and thousands of families affected by the disaster. Emergency response teams, volunteers, and rescue workers continue their tireless efforts to locate survivors and provide assistance to affected communities.

In an official letter to President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, dated July 7, 2025, Ramos-Horta expressed the solidarity of the Timorese people with the American people during this difficult time. The President acknowledged the extraordinary efforts of rescue teams and volunteers who continue to work with courage and dedication to save lives and assist those in need.

“In this moment of pain and suffering, I wish to extend to Your Excellency, to the bereaved families, and to the people of the United States of America my heartfelt solidarity and sincere condolences,” President Ramos-Horta stated. “Timor-Leste follows, with sorrow and hope, the extraordinary efforts of rescue teams, volunteers, and all those who, with courage and dedication, continue to work tirelessly to save survivors and assist the affected communities. We pray for the victims of this catastrophe and for all the families enduring such a difficult time. May they find comfort in the unity of your people and in the spirit of compassion and resilience that has always characterized the United States of America.”

Ramos-Horta emphasized that Timor-Leste stands in solidarity with the United States during this time of tragedy, reflecting the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect between the two nations.
