Putrajaya, June 26 (AseanAll) — The 25th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) and Its Related Meetings, held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on 24-26 June 2025, addressed recent trends in transnational crime in the region.
The series of meetings focused on strengthening practical cooperation both within ASEAN and with external partners to combat current and emerging threats, including people smuggling, money laundering, terrorism and cyber-enabled crimes such as online scams, forced labour and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven cognitive threats. In line with ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, the 25th SOMTC also assessed its priority areas of transnational crime and deliberated on the trajectory of ASEAN law enforcement cooperation for the next decade.
The Meetings were attended by SOMTC Leaders of all ASEAN Member States, Senior Official Leaders responsible for transnational crime from ASEAN Dialogue Partners, and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Political-Security Community. Timor-Leste also attended as Observer.
The series of meetings included SOMTC Consultations with Australia, Canada, China, Japan, the European Union, India, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the United States and the Plus Three countries.
