Indonesia invites MSG Countries to focus on Development and Economic Progress issues

Suva, June 24 (AseanAll)  — Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, led the Indonesian delegation at the 23rd Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Summit in Suva, Fiji, from June 18-23, 2025.
Starting his speech, Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister Tata expressed that Indonesia is proud to be part of the MSG mission to advance the region in terms of economy, social, and culture. Vice Foreign Minister Tata emphasized the strategic strength of MSG countries in the Pacific region, which represent 86 percent of the population, 98 percent of GDP, and cover almost half of the region's EEZ.

"With the abundance of natural resources and the strength of human resources, MSG countries can and must become leaders in the Pacific region," said Tata.

Furthermore, Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister Tata emphasized the importance of development and economic progress as the main guidelines for MSG's work, which is expected to have a tangible impact on society. Indonesia also expressed its readiness to become a development partner for MSG countries, particularly in the sectors of blue economy, environmental resilience, peace and security, health and human resource development, as well as infrastructure development.

"Let's focus on tangible results, such as job creation, infrastructure development, and strengthening trade and education," concluded Tata.

The 23rd MSG Summit was chaired by the Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, and attended by the leaders of the MSG member countries. Additionally, representatives from Australia and the PRC were present as honorary guests. In this MSG Summit, the chairmanship was handed over from Vanuatu to Fiji as the host of the meeting.

Indonesia's participation in the MSG Summit this time coincides with a decade since Indonesia joined the MSG as an Associate Member, marking Indonesia's strong commitment as part of the larger Melanesian family in promoting peace and prosperity in the Pacific region.
