Seri Begawan, June 19 (AseanAll) — The Ministry of Defence of Brunei convened the Strategy Management Group (SMG) Meeting 2025 at the Officers’ Mess, Bangar Camp, Temburong District on 19 June 2025.
The meeting was chaired by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Brunei Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II.
Also present were members of the Defence Executive Committee and Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Executive Committee, and senior leaderships of the Ministry of Defence as well as Strategic Objectives owners.
In his opening remarks, Yang Berhormat Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II emphasised the importance of prioritising synergy in the formulation and implementation of strategies, action plans, and initiatives through the ‘One Ministry Approach’. He further highlighted the critical role of civil-military cooperation, inter-agency collaboration, and cross-functional coordination in delivering defence services that are not only effective and efficient but also instrumental in safeguarding the safety, sovereignty, and well-being of the nation.
The SMG meeting functions as an important platform for the regular and systematic review of the organisation’s performance and the effectiveness of its strategic direction. During the session, discussions focused on the performance of corporate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the implementation of performance improvement action plans, ensuring the Ministry remains aligned with its defined strategic objectives.
As a long-standing component within the Ministry of Defence’s strategic management framework, the SMG continues to provide strong leadership and accountability in driving the successful execution of objectives, targets, and initiatives outlined in the Defence Strategic Plan.
