Beijing, May 14 (AseanAll) — The 2nd Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) meeting between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) was held on May 14,2025 at the Office for International Military Cooperation, People’s Republic of China.
The meeting was co-chaired by Yang Mulia Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Brunei Darussalam, and Major General Zhang Bao Qun, Deputy Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission (OIMC CMC), Ministry of National Defence of the People’s Republic of China. Officials from the defence establishments and armed forces of both countries were also in attendance.
During the meeting, Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthen and deepen bilateral relations. The meeting observed discussion around the progress on the bilateral defence cooperation as well as prospects for potential areas of future cooperation. Both sides also had the opportunity to exchange views on regional and international mutual security concerns.
As part of the JDWC program, Yang Mulia Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin and delegation made a working visit to China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), as an introduction to China's defence-related industry. The delegation also visited the 3rd Guard Division of the Beijing Garrison. The delegation visited the Peacekeeping Affairs Centre whereby Brunei Darussalam and PRC are currently co-chairing the ASEAN Defence Minister’s Meeting Plus Expert’s Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations.
The delegation also had an opportunity to visit the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution.
The JDWC meeting between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China was established in 2023 to serve as a platform for both defence establishments to exchange views on matters of mutual concern as well as to discuss current and future defence cooperation. The JDWC is also a follow up from the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China on 12 September 2003.
