Cambodia, Laos Strengthen Border Security to Combat Human and Drug Trafficking

Phnom Penh, May 16 (AseanAll) — Cambodia and Laos have reaffirmed their joint commitment to intensify efforts against human trafficking and drug smuggling along their shared border, vowing to enhance public security and social stability for citizens of both nations.

The pledge was made during a bilateral meeting on May 15, 2025, at Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior in Phnom Penh,Cambodia.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Aphi Santepundit Sar Sokha, welcomed Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security, Gen. Vilay Lakhamphong, who is leading a delegation to attend the commemoration of the 80th founding anniversary of the Cambodian National Police on May 16, 2025.

Gen.  Vilay Lakhamphong conveyed his congratulations on the milestone anniversary, praising the long-standing collaboration between the two nations. Both leaders expressed confidence that bilateral ties and cross-border cooperation will continue to deepen, fostering mutual benefits and safeguarding communities from transnational crimes.

The discussions underscored the urgency of addressing trafficking networks and drug syndicates, with both sides agreeing to bolster intelligence-sharing, joint patrols, and capacity-building initiatives.
