Cambodia’s Techo International Airport Named Among World’s Best New Airports

Phnom Penh, June 2 (AseanAll)  — Techo International Airport, the largest airport in Cambodia, has earned global recognition after being included in the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards 2026 list of the world’s best new airport terminals.

The newly operational airport was one of only five airports worldwide selected for the category, which evaluates airport terminals that have opened within the previous 18 months. The rankings are based on a comprehensive passenger survey assessing facilities, staff services, operational efficiency and overall customer experience.

According to Skytrax, the award recognises excellence among newly launched airport terminals and measures performance across a broad range of criteria.

The inclusion of Techo International Airport places Cambodia alongside major international aviation projects in Japan, China, the United States and India, underscoring the country’s ambitions to modernise its transport infrastructure and strengthen connectivity with global markets.

Theco International Airport is located in the south of the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, and officially commenced operations on September 9, 2025, replacing the capital’s ageing airport as the country’s primary international gateway. The airport is classified as a 4F-category facility, the highest international airport classification, enabling it to accommodate some of the world’s largest commercial aircraft, including the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800.

The airport’s first phase, completed last year, features a four-kilometre runway and passenger facilities capable of handling more than 15 million travellers annually. Designed to support Cambodia’s long-term tourism and economic growth, the project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to transform the Kingdom into a regional transport and logistics hub.

Construction of the Theco International Airport has been planned in three stages. Under the second phase, a new runway will be added to increase annual passenger capacity to 30 million by 2030. The final phase, scheduled for completion by 2050, will include a third runway and expanded facilities, raising capacity to 45 million passengers per year.
