(AseanAll)  — Cambodia and Vietnam are considering the establishment of a joint trade committee aimed at helping achieve the bilateral trade target of US$20 billion, as set by the top leaders of both countries.

The commitment was highlighted by Cambodian Minister of Commerce Mrs. Cham Nimul during a courtesy call on Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the evening of April 28,2025 in Hanoi.

On the occasion, Cham Nimul conveyed greetings from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to his Vietnamese counterpart and extended congratulations to Vietnam on the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification Day.

She also briefed the Vietnamese Premier on the outcomes of her working visit, which included a Cambodia-Vietnam bilateral meeting focused on boosting trade volume through more effective and comprehensive implementation of existing trade mechanisms — such as the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, ASEAN+1 frameworks, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The discussions also covered the signing of the Cambodia-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Promotion Coordination Plan for 2025–2026 and the consideration of establishing the proposed joint trade committee.

Pham Minh Chinh expressed his appreciation for Cambodia’s economic and trade development and conveyed his greetings to the King of Cambodia, Senate President Hun Sen, and Prime Minister Hun Manet.

He voiced support for the initiative to form the joint trade committee and encouraged the two commerce ministries and relevant institutions to enhance cooperation in order to achieve the US$20 billion trade volume goal for the mutual benefit of both nations.
