(AseanAll) — On April 22, 2025, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith received Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand during her official visit to the Lao PDR, taking place from April 21–24,according to Lao News Agency KPL.

Thongloun warmly welcomed Her Royal Highness, expressing high appreciation for her continued visits to the Lao PDR, which have played an important role in strengthening the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between Laos and Thailand. He emphasized that this year’s visit carries special significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 70th birthday of Her Royal Highness.

On behalf of the Lao government and people, Thongloun extended heartfelt birthday wishes to Princess Sirindhorn and conveyed greetings to His Majesty the King of Thailand, Her Majesty the Queen, and the entire Royal Family.
Thongloun also extended an invitation to the King of Thailand to co-chair the opening ceremony of the 5th Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge (Bolikhamxay-Bungkran) later this year, and encouraged the King and Royal Family to consider a state visit to the Lao PDR to further strengthen bilateral ties.
He expressed sincere gratitude to the Thai Royal Family, the government, and the people of Thailand for their condolences and participation in the funeral of Lao former President Khamtay Siphandone. He also conveyed condolences to Thailand for the losses and damages caused by the earthquake on March 28, 2025.

The President praised the strong and multi-faceted Lao-Thai cooperation over the past 75 years, which has flourished at both central and local levels. He particularly thanked Thailand for development projects initiated under royal patronage, which have greatly benefited Laos in sectors such as agriculture, education, health, environment, technology, and infrastructure.
That evening, Thongloun, his spouse, and other dignitaries hosted a Basi ceremony and reception in honor of Her Royal Highness and her delegation, held in a warm atmosphere of friendship and mutual respect.
