Beijing, April 21 (AseanAll) — On April 21, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi shared the consensus reached between the two sides during a joint meeting with the press following the First Ministerial Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue.
Wang Yi said that based on the common understandings reached between President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto, the First Ministerial Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue was held today. This is the first joint foreign and defense ministerial dialogue established by China globally, marking the opening of a new chapter in the strategic mutual trust as well as political and security cooperation between the two neighboring countries, two emerging economies, and two major developing nations.
Wang Yi said that the two sides had an in-depth and friendly exchange on China-Indonesia relations and issues of common interest and concern. The two sides unanimously agreed that both China and Indonesia are major developing countries and important representatives of the Global South, and the development of both countries is rooted in a friendly neighborhood environment and benefited from the Oriental wisdom of win-win cooperation. Both sides highly evaluated the achievements in building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future, emphasizing that significant progress in bilateral relations is fundamentally guaranteed by the head-of-state leadership, with strategic autonomy as the foundation, mutual benefit and win-win results as the way to get along with each other, and fairness and justice as the common pursuit.
Wang Yi said that the world is undergoing transformations unseen in a century. Facing the severe impact of unilateralism and hegemonism, human society has once again come to a crossroads. Given the complex and ever-changing external environment, the global significance of unity and cooperation between China and Indonesia becomes more prominent.
Both sides agreed to uphold the strategic guidance of the heads of state, maintain close high-level exchanges, and firmly support each other's core interests and major concerns. Both agreed to adhere to strategic autonomy, oppose external interference, and work together to follow a development path with national characteristics. The two sides decided to establish a China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue Mechanism to coordinate and advance cooperation on the "five pillars".
Both sides agreed to promote a deep synergy between Chinese modernization and the "Golden Indonesia 2045" vision to support each other for mutual success. The two sides will deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen cooperation on new quality productive forces, fully leverage complementary advantages in resource and production capacity, and implement cooperation documents on important minerals, green minerals, and other aspects to support their respective development and transformation.
Both sides agreed to further expand the scope of security cooperation and practice the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. The two sides decided to establish a consultation mechanism on disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control between China and Indonesia. The two sides will enhance cooperation in law enforcement and security, jointly combat cross-border crimes such as cross-border gambling and telecom fraud, and strengthen cooperation on cyber security.
Both sides agreed to jointly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea. The two sides will set an example in maritime cooperation. The coast guards of both countries have signed a maritime security cooperation agreement. The two sides reiterated their commitment to fully and effectively implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and accelerating the consultations of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.
Both sides agreed to stick to the original goal of building an open world economy, advocate universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and uphold the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core. The two sides will work to foster a just, fair and non-discriminatory environment for trade and investment. China and Indonesia are each other's important trade partners, and the two sides will continue to uphold an open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial cooperation philosophy. Both sides oppose any form of unilateralism and trade protectionism, and believe that the abuse of tariffs will severely undermine normal economic and trade exchanges between countries. The two sides will jointly strive to speed up regional economic integration, keep industrial and supply chains stable and unimpeded, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South.
Both sides agreed to take the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference as an opportunity to carry out closer multilateral strategic coordination, and jointly carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit. The two sides will enhance communication and cooperation on platforms such as the United Nations, BRICS, and the G20, and work together to make greater contributions to regional and global peace, stability, and development.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, and bilateral relations are facing new development opportunities. Both sides will follow the common understandings reached between the two heads of state, elevate the friendship, mutual trust and strategic coordination between the two countries to a higher level, amplify the regional and global influence of the China-Indonesia community with a shared future, and always join hands to stay at the forefront of the times in building a community with a shared future for mankind.
The two sides agreed to hold the second Ministerial Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue in Indonesia.
